Advanced research
We undertake advanced research into country-specific issues touching on the Rule of Law Development. Once research has been undertaken, we send assessors to fact finding missions to the geographic regions in African countries in order to undertake assessments, compile reports for purposes of a strategic analysis and programme development.
Policy Dialogue
We constitute a team of expert policy analysts from national institutions and international organizations who bring their experiences in policy analysis to the table during discussions on various rule of law issues and draft policies for proposals to African governments.
Anti-corruption and integrity mechanisms
Most of our efforts pertaining to this program involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to implement them. We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements.
Education & Outreach
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us ensure that our partners are better prepared to manage the unique situations they find themselves in. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers upcoming young African leaders. Part of the programme is to sponsor young African leaders to visit the Swiss parliament and get to interact with Swiss law makers where they can learn the Swiss techniques of democratic leadership.
Post civil war and post-election healing and reconciliation
Through our designed technique of tribal dialogue, we enable tribes to come together post civil wars, post-election violence and tribal tensions. We also adopt the technique of Non-Violent Communication when breaking deadlock and fostering unity.
The rule of law counter measures on loans
One of the greatest challenges faced by Africans is the high rate of borrowing done by their leaders. We analyse the rule of law recourse against poor borrowing and how citizens can counter borrowing by their governements. This is mostly through an exploration of the rule of law principles of accountability an
Women and justice
Women in Africa continue to face many challenges akin to unequality, discriminatory and inhumane practices such as Female Genital Mutilation,Forced Marriages and discrimminative land inheritance practices as well as unempowerment. We tackle all these issues through policy analysis, lobbying and legal aid, we also engage policy makers in the implementation of policies that promote women inclusion economically, socially and politically. We also support women entrepreneurs in agribusinesses to access markets and financing.
Tackling the Alshabaab and radicalization
Kipkoech was supposed to join Kaptumo Boys. But due to lack of school fees, he failed to do so. He decided to engage in casual jobs instead within the neighbourhood. His peers say he was a very bright student and very ambitious in life, and this may have driven him to where he is. “He could spend several hours in cyber cafés, browsing, and this is where he might have been recruited, as he was looking for opportunities for
himself for a better life,” Kiptoo, one of his peers, said.
Kipkoech is one of the many youths in Kenya falling prey to radicalization, which recruits fall prey to joining the Alshabaab terrorist group in exchange for money. Many blame the lack of jobs and opportunities as the root cause of radicalization. The question is whether with job creation, can radicalization be completely defeated or is the development of Rule of Law in Somalia key to eradicating the allegiance to the terror group.
Peacebuilding and disarmament programme
Most of our efforts pertaining to this program involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to foster peace and promote disarmament exercises in African countries. Our current focus is in Northern Nigeria, South Sudan, Turkana and Mandera counties in Kenya and Somalia. We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements.
Demilitarization
There are many countries in Africa under military rule, or where the ruling regime uses the military to quelch descent or to prevent the formation of a strong opposition. Burundi, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Sudan, the Sudan, Mali, the DRC, the Congo are some of the countries.
In Burundi president Nkurunzinza continues to rule for years longer than the constitutionally proscribed two terms. He has often been accused by oponents of rigging the elections and using the military to silence opposers and the masses from revolting against his rule.
Since November 2020, there has been an ongoing armed conflict between the special forces of the Tigray region and the Ethiopian National Defence Forces which has resulted in mass killing of the Tigray civilian population and rape of women and girls in what appears to be a genocide. Since achieving independence from the Sudan, the South Sudan has faced multiple coups and civil wars perpetrated by militia groups once affiliated to the military, and on the other side the ruling regime's military forces, leading to prolonged decades of unsustainable peace.
