About Us

Africa Forum for Rule of Law Development Forum- AFRIROL- is  a  Pan-African development forum focused on tackling the challenges of  governance and democracy in African countries. Our main goal is to: contribute to the development and enhancement of innovative thinking on governance and democracy challenges for the African continent. Subsequent to the high demand for knowledge and information on the status of the Rule of Law development in each country in Africa, and sustainable solutions to the challenges therein, AFRIROL was founded by mid-level development law experts from predominantly African countries. With vast expertise in the development and implementation of Rule of Law programmes in African countries, these lawyers offer analytical and experienced solutions to to tackling the challenges in the Rule of Law enforcement in African countries.

Africa as an entire continent has been dubbed a place where democracy is rather nominal and not practical. Where autrocracy and tyranny seem to take center stage as this what Africans understand better. In recent times, good governance, respect for human rights and justice is beginning to take shape in a majority of the countries, however slowly. Free and fair elections coupled by revolutions and protests (peaceful or not) have seen the exit of tyrant presidents and citizens' demand for accountability by their governments as well as recognition of civil liberties. In the backdrop of this, some countries are still under dictatorship, many face insecurities, tribalism, nepotism, corruption and economically crippling public debt. This calls for the need to formulate sustainable solutions and effective means of enforcing them in order to bring lasting hope to the continent.

AFRIROL holds regular forums in Europe and Africa where various African development lawyers meet to discuss the various problems affecting the Rule of Law development depending on each country-specific circumstance. They also take part in mission work aimed at advocating for policy changes that are keen in the promotion, strengthening and enforcement of the Rule of Law tenets of Good Governance, Democracy, Access to Justice, human rights and gender mainstreaming. AFRIROL's mission is to promote, implement, strenghthen and safeguard  these Rule of Law Tenets with the aim of enabling an environment for sustainable development.
